Despot Speaks...
Posted on 06/11/2009

Hi attention payers. This is Despot writing a blog about my rap music for you. check it out! So as many of you already know, I made a bunch of songs with RATATAT while we were on tour together in march and april of this year. The plan was to release all of these made-on-the-bus songs for free when the tour ended as an album called "Jerry" after my father.
Both Evan of RATATAT and EL-P of rap boss of def jux records said to me, "Hey Despot, you're a fucking idiot. Some of these songs are pretty good. How about we rework them and make them REAL and then your album can finally come out." At first, my reply was, "no way guys. I told everyone they're gonna get these all for free. Let's just stick to that and then make some new songs." After carefully considering how long I take to do stuff, and how prone I am to scrapping stuff, I saw their side of things.
As such, I think what will happen is, my favorites from the Jerry recordings will turn into album tracks. My not so favorites will probably become a free EP. I really hope that's ok with all of you. Of course if it isn't, I don't care! I mean I'm very sorry.
So, when do you get to hear at least one new song from me? I guess in the fall! a song I did with RATATAT called "Look Alive" will appear on def jux presents 4 alongside my rapping friends. your continued support and patience are my father and my mother in these dark days. thanks, dad. thanks, mom.
